Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat, the two new communication tools for G Suite

Hangouts-Meet

G Suite, the enterprise-focused suite of cloud-based applications, may have lacked some tools to better leverage professional communications. Well, they just arrived in the form of two applications: Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat.

Hangouts Meet is basically a simple version of Hangouts focused on enabling videoconferences with third parties without the need for user accounts, application downloads, plugins or other inconveniences. It will only take a shared link with which up to 30 people can be added in the same video conversation. This link may be available from Calendar, which will be closely linked to the new service by email or even through a publication to that effect.

This new application has been available for a few months and from now on will reach all G Suite users over the next few weeks. Among the companies that have already taken advantage of the potential of Hangouts Meet is Braintree, Paypal.

Hangouts Chat is a new competitor for Slack, although according to Google’s definition, it is “a smart communication application for teams that takes direct messaging in Hangouts and develops it to reflect the way in which Modern teams talk about business.” Basically, Hangouts Chat lets you create “virtual rooms” so that corporate users can handle the conversations of their ongoing projects. The conversations will be shown in the form of threads, thus allowing their follow-up.

Google notes that it will also be possible to integrate content available in Drive and Docs into these conversations, although there are also more integrations, since the service supports bots, Google App Script scripts, as well as third-party applications whose first batch of applications support Prosperworks, Box, Zendesk, Asana, Polly.ai, Freshdesk, Zapier, Zenefits, Xero, Smartsheets and Intuit.

The first bot to be available in Hangouts Chat is @meet, which uses natural language processing and machine learning for automatic scheduling of meetings with the team using Hangouts Meet and Google Calendar. With regard to Hangouts Chat it should be noted that it is currently available in the private beta phase and that to access it will have to be part of its early adoption program.

As we say, these are two new business communications solutions that will allow corporate customers to have those capabilities that G Suite has lacked to carry out other types of communications.
