The American company Apple has postponed the release date of its smart HomePod column from the end of 2017 to early 2018.
Bad news for those who were looking forward to the Christmas holidays to buy their HomePod units. Apple’s new smart speaker will not arrive in time for the holidays as scheduled. Instead, according to the company’s statement, HomePod will begin to be available by early 2018 in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.
The company said in a statement to Engadget:
“We can not wait for people to start using HomePod, which is a breakthrough of Apple’s wireless loudspeakers for home, but we need a little more time before it is ready for our customers. We will begin shipping to the US, UK and Australia in early 2018.”
The reasons for the delay in the release of the gadget is not specified. It is also unclear whether this is affecting the start of sales in other countries.
Note that the “early 2018” date is a somewhat ambiguous date. Apple has not given reasons for the delay of this first generation of its smart speaker. In the statement released by the company, they have not given any specific reasons, other than they need a little more time before it is ready to be available for consumers. With HomePod, Siri would stop being only on iOS devices and Mac OS computers and would be much more present in people’s lives through other devices.
SiriKit for HomePod is a great bet and hence Apple does not want to leave loose ends while trying to offer the best possible experience.
The downside is that during all this time, there are many technological companies that have shown their novelties in the segment of smart loudspeakers. Companies like Google or Amazon have shown high-end options more than interesting, such as Home Max, for those who they want maximum audio quality, and that will soon be launched on the market. Also, the Echo Plus, which will enable the control of connected devices in our home.
In addition, there are many new smart speaker options that have been added over the last few months by various technology companies, usually integrating Google assistants, Amazon, or even Windows, with some speakers that they allow to choose between several incorporated assistants.
The Apple Homepod will be available in two colors: black and white. The price of HomePod is $349. Previously, we saw some leaked images of the “smart speaker” from Apple. It was expected that by the end of 2017 the column will appear in the United States, Britain and Australia, and in 2018 – in the rest of the world. But now it seems that Apple wants to make a product solid enough before users pay $349 for it.
