At this point we all agree on the popularity of the major video streaming platforms. In fact, the interest for this type of platforms is such that alternatives like Netflix seek to highlight creating their own series, offering unique content on their platform. According to the Wall Street Journal’s claims, it seems that Facebook is considering the possibility of getting on the bandwagon of streaming content.
As the source states, what Facebook would be doing is developing an application for multimedia entertainment centers in charge of providing video content to play on television. Apparently, the company would take several years working on this application, which would be compatible with devices like the Apple TV.
At the moment, it is unknown if we could use the app to play the content of our Facebook account. Even so, we do know that the social network would be in the process of negotiating with different companies to offer mini series with chapters of up to 10 minutes in length. At this point it is important to bear in mind that competition is high in this sector, although the social network has for some time demonstrating its interest in the world of video streaming by encouraging more and more of its consumption within the social network.
Of course, we can not forget to mention the potential of such a platform for advertisers, which could be an important source of benefits for the company. Undoubtedly, this is a movement of the most interesting on the part of Facebook, so we will follow closely the evolution of the matter.
