We have already talked about the upcoming Nvidia Geforce GT 1030 graphics card at the end of April as a rumor that had quite a few glimpses of being credible. Today a post on the web Videocardz confirms that many manufacturers are developing these new graphics cards. They intend to position it as direct competition to the new AMD Radeon RX 550 graphics in the low range of the market.
Although most of the market money is in the mid-range, the low range of both Nvidia and AMD has been neglected for many years without new models that can really serve anything other than playing minivan or playing movies. Yes, these are the graphics that are usually installed on clone computers that are usually sold assembled in most neighborhood stores as if they were the eighth wonder of the world.
AMD Radeon has already released a graphics card for this market in the form of the RX 550 that, although its specifications are nothing to throw rockets at. Since they have not yet left any reviews of this model, we can only guess that it should decently defend at 1080p with a level of detail between medium and low.
It will not be the case with the new Nvidia graphics card. Why do I say this? Because it’s known specifications are quite flimsy. We have a chart that has only 384 CUDA cores, such as 24 TMUs, 8 ROPs and only 2 GB of GDDR5 GRAM memory (you should not end up also drawing a model with GDDR3 to lower prices and performance), All running under a 64-bit bus. With those specifications I would not be surprised if you do not go near the AMD model or shelter in its shadow.
As we can see from the images, most models are low profile, and many of them employ passive cooling with fairly simple heat sinks. You just have to stop by any online store and look at the models that use passive cooling. Yes, indeed, they are the models of more than 4 years ago that currently do not serve for much, much less to play.
What I think Nvidia wants to do with this Geforce GT 1030 is to put a cap on customers while they get the Geforce GT 1040, which would be the one that would compete against the Radeon RX 550.
