Windows 10 Creators Update: More control over updates and app installations

windows creators update

In April, the big Windows 10 Creators update will appear. Microsoft has now released build 15046 on the Quick Ring of the Insider program. The pre-release brings a new management for system updates and a control function for installing apps.

Improved management of system updates

With the update to Windows 10, Microsoft has introduced not only countless new features, but also some removed including some controls for system updates.

From a Microsoft blog post at the beginning of March shows that Microsoft with the Creators update again give more control over updates. While users have been able to define a time window of twelve hours, in which an update is to be carried out, it is now possible to select a specific time. If the time does not fit, it can still be postponed.

In addition, there should be a function with which you move the start of an update even easier to another time. With one click you move the start of the update by three days. Furthermore, the active hours have been extended, a period during which no updates are installed so that the PC can be used without interruptions. Pending updates are usually started by Windows at a time when the computer is not in use.

More control over application installations

In addition to optimized update management, Build 15046 also introduces a new feature for controlling app installations. From Settings> System> Apps & Features, you can now determine whether apps can only be installed from the Windows Store or other sources. Alternatively, beware of installing an app that does not come from the store.

Simplified working with Cortana

Further innovations can be found in the Cortana personal assistant, which is designed to simplify work across multiple devices. Cortana will continue to display apps, files, and web pages that you previously used on other Windows devices, so far only web pages have been displayed. Currently, however, this feature is only available in the United States, whether all users can benefit from this function is still uncertain.

This is one of the major updates by Microsoft which will arrive possibly in April. Till then let’s wait to see what more the Creators update has to offer to Windows 10.
