Goodnotes 5: Is It Better Than Notability?

Goodnotes 5

I know you are here to find which one is better Goodnotes 5 or Notability.

Wait for a bit as I share my side of the story(Not a Sob Story😢).

Some time back, I had to buy a note-taking app and that’s when I got to know about the two apps mentioned in this post.

I was really confused between goodnotes 5 and notability.

That’s why I ended up watching 24 hours of YouTube video on Safeshare comparing the two apps.

And despite all this, I ended up with no conclusion.

With the no choice left. I ended up buying both the note taking apps for my device.

Now that I have used both the apps, I know which one is better for you.

Besides, with this post, I want to make sure you don’t end up in a situation like me where you’ve no option left but to purchase both the apps. Let’s get started:

Goodnotes 5 vs Notability: Which One Should You Pick?

My best pick would be Goodnotes 5 as the primary note taking app on your iPhone/iPad/Mac.

You might want to want you WHY?

Why I came to this conclusion. Well, let me tell you why:

You see, I deal with a lot of PDF files and goodnotes 5 note taking app is way better than the notability in handling of PDF files.

You can convert your notes to PDF file format & start saving them offline.

Even though, with both the apps, you would end up brainstorming your brain for ideas and finishing your common tasks.

However, all in all, it was the Goodnotes 5 that did a better job collectively.

Furthermore, Goodnotes 5 lets you import a rich planner into your account and use it like you have purchased it online.

Crazy, isn’t it?

By now, you’ve heard so many good things about goodnotes 5, it’s not like notability is not a good note taking app, Notability has a better UI than Goodnotes 5.

In fact, it is a bit easier to use when it comes down to editing or resizing your notes and most important of all, you can use it to save audio messages that can become useful later down the road.

However, I still think, the money I spent on Goodnotes 5 was completely worth it.

At the moment. I don’t see any major problem with Goodnotes 5.

However, it would be best if Goodnotes 5 finds a way to reduce the amount of storage it uses to save the notes in your device.

I believe if this minor con is fixed, it would be nearly impossible for Notability, evernote or any other popular note-taking apps.

Goodnotes 5 Tips and Tricks

When saving your notes in a diary, or on paper, you would need adequate stationery items.

This mess doesn’t end here as you’ll have everything cluttered on your desk. No one wants that.

Besides, if you make any kind of typing mistake, your life would be miserable.

But that’s not the case when you’ve Goodnotes 5 with you as you can easily use it to easily revert all the recent changes.

So, up next, here’s a list of cool tips & tricks that would be helpful for you:

Change the Color of Text

By default, you can write down your notes in black color. But when everything’s around you is black, it doesn’t look good. So, you would want to change the color of text, right.

In case of Goodnotes 5, it’s quite easy.

Here’s how you can change the color of text in Goodnotes 5:

Lasso tool -> Circle text -> Tap -> Color -> Choose color

Double Tap to Go Back

Even though I’m OK with this but there are some users who don’t like to use back button again & again to revert any changes.

So, for them, Goodnotes 5 allows you to use double tap gestures to go back to previous screens.

Not just that this double tap feature can be used to undo your mistake, therefore eliminating the use of eraser tool forever.

Take Custom Screenshot

Unlike many notes app, where you have no option than to takecomplete screenshot, Goodnotes 5 lets you take passport partial screenshot of a template and customize it as per your need.

Here’s how you can do this:

Lasso around the white area -> Tap on selection -> Take screenshot -> Paste & resize over what you want to cover

Split Screen

It’s normal to take multiple notes at the same time. However, this gets a bit complicated when the notes app does not allow you to split screen in two halves.

But don’t worry that’s not the case with Good notes 5 as you can work on two pages of the same planner at one time.

Here’s how you can do this:

Swipe up -> In the app menu select GoodNotes by holding and dragging the icon to the side of the planner page -> Open the planner page you want to use

Dark Mode

As a gamer, I always love to have all my screens, browsers in dark mode.

And the dark mode option available on Good notes 5 is a cherry on the top.

You see I spend most of my day looking at the bright screen.

So a black screen would give my eyes a break.

Create Your Own Color Palette.

It’s tiring when you have to go again and again to pick a color from the default color palette.

So, it’s best if you create your own color palette and include every custom color you want to use in note taking. This way, you no longer have to open the default color palette and find the desired color using the hex code.

Here is how you can create your own color palette:

Select pencil tool -> Click on the color circle to open the menu -> Select custom -> Paste hex code & save preset
