What is WeDo 2.0 ?
So, LEGO has recently released their WeDo series, WeDo 2.0 robotic set for their customers. WeDo 2.0 is a collaboration between two groups which are Erik Hansen (head of the Electronics R&D department of The LEGO Group) and Mitchel Resnick (head of the Lifelong Kindergarten group at MIT Media Lab) .
They have also released a new Lego Mindstorms robotics kit because of their 20 year of anniversary for the children of 11+ age. Unlike this Lego Mindstorms robotics kit, this WeDo 2.0 kit is for the child of 7-9 age.
The LEGO company was came up in 2009 and decided to attract the parents whose kid falls on 7-9 age chart. The set comprises of the following things –
- beloved LEGO bricks with one motor,
- A hub that connects the model to the computer
- two sensors
You have to simply perform the visual programming of drag and drop in order to make the use the kit efficiently. The kit, which is especially made up for kids, designed in such a way that is friendly in nature plus with a goal to teach a kid perfectly.

WeDo 2.0 – What you’ll get in Kit?
LEGO have designed the WeDo 2.0 for two kid, that means two children can work together in one WeDo kit.
When you’ll open the box first *Imagine this is Unboxing* you’ll Find a element card and a sorting tray. Then you’ll see all the elements along with smart hub, motor and sensor. But they are not in a way which your kid have to arrange.
The pieces are randomly mixed and you have to rearrange them. Now, we are warning you that the rearranging process might be a little tired for you and if you are thinking that you are a PRO in this because you have already done in WeDo 1.0, you are WRONG.
WeDo 1.0 have less number of pieces as compared to WeDo 2.0, which have double pieces.Also you have to arrange them in a sorting tray. The developers have designed the sorting tray in a way that every element fit it in.
Additionally, the element card have all the details regarding where each element will be stored. There are some big elements which are not mentioned in sorting tray will go in the storage box because of the big size.
Talking about the pieces, they looks so beautiful with different types of color. The pieces are mainly in the color greens, light blues and yellows with a little tint of fresh hues and also the color feels bright. You’ll find some sort of other colors too. There are also lots of transparent pieces in the kit.
Now these colors are not random infact they conveys a strong message behind this i.e. Recycling and ecology.

WeDo 2.0 Core Set – What does it contain?
The WeDo 2.0 box is almost 2 times bigger than its prequel WeDo kit. The kit is large and comes with plastic box. Inside the box, you’ll find a semi-transparent plastic lid and with a sorting tray. You’ll also find 13 various type compartment of LEGO pieces.
Moreover, each compartment further consist of normally 4-11 types pieces of LEGO. The LEGO pieces are generally arranged in a manner from big to small and also according to their sizes. Now, these were about the small pieces. Where are the big pieces now?
You’ll find the big pieces underneath of the tray, in the middle of the box. Now with all these compartment pieces, a small kid will get confuse.

You’ll have stickers with the name embedded on it, which can be used to remember the item. Now with the sticker it became a lot of easier to find the pieces.

Mainly every size got increase from sorting tray to number if bricks and it will result in the increase of bigger storage box of the kit. Also the container box is a life saver unlike the WeDo 1.0 whose container was normally go into the trash. WeDo 2.0 container is helpful to store the pieces and you can easily find them whenever needed.

Looks like they updated the software and fixed most problems as well as added PDF export! Go LEGO! INITIALLY. Here is the good: The lessons 1-8 and build instructions are pretty good. Here is the bad: The Document Tool is junk. After 3 weeks of documenting it lost EVERYTHING unrecoverable! Heck, even pressing the lock button, deletes the last changes without warning when it is really supposed to lock the document to protect it from changes!
