Ever since I bought my PS4, I can’t take my eyes off of it.
From, popular pokemon games to the Last of Us, I’ve played them all. Despite all this, that would be just a drop in the sea of games.
There are countless games loved & adored by gamers from all over the world. Over the past decade, we’ve seen a big boom in the game.
And I don’t think this boom is going to stop anytime soon. This kind of growth wouldn’t be possible without the quality games that we’ve available online.
For instance, the 5 games listed in this post comes with everything a gamer would like to see in a game:
✅Interesting Storyline.
✅Useful & Immediate rewards.
✅Continuous Challenge
✅Promising Characters.
✅Realistic Graphics.
I agree these attributes make up a good game but to me, I always prefer an intriguing character. I believe their alluring backstory, struggles are what makes you follow a game with whole heart.
So, going forward in this post, I’ll list some of the most popular video game characters. Let’s get started:
Lara Croft
Lara Croft made her 1st appearance in the video game Tomb Raider (1996).
Even though, the character of Lara Croft was quite popular back than, it got a boost when a movie based on the same character released in theaters.
At that time, the character of Lara Croft was famous only among gamers but it was Lara Croft who brought this character to life & attracted even casual gamers to the Lara Croft gaming series.
Back in the day, when Tomb Raider was released, it broke every stereotype that you would normally expect from a female character. Lara Croft is well-educated, & can effectively kick some ass. In a way, you can say she was a pioneer to all the female characters that made their in-game debut after Tomb Raider.
Initially, when the character of Lara Croft was introduced, she had the sex appeal that made her popular face among the gaming community.
However, over the years, the developers have tried to take away this part of the character & in way, they have been successful as gamers have started to like Lara Croft for her attributes such as her archeological & fighting skills.
She’s a daughter of an an archeologist, who get’s on quest to after her father & mother are suddenly disappeared. Now, the complete focus is set on how she travels to the the faraway places & search for clues related to the disappearance of her parents.
Geralt of Rivia
Geralt of Rivia aka The Witcher was 1st introduced in a Polish Fantasy Magazine in 1986. However, he became a popular face when The Witcher video game was released in 2007.
Then by the end of 2019, Netflix released an original series The Witcher starring Hery Cavill as the Geralt of Rivia. He did the exact same thing, Anjelina Jolie did with the character of Lara Craft – Brought back the character to life & introduced it to the worldwide audience.
Today, even non-gamers knows who Geralt of Rivia is. He’s a demon hunter made by magic & also known as a “Witcher”. He possesses magical abilities through genetic mutations.
Even though, the video game didn’t do a proper justice to the character of Geralt, the Netflix Show has filled this gap to show how promising his character is.
I hope, the upcoming Witcher 4 will pickup from the point Witcher 3 ended & will explore the witcher character to its core. Apart from this, the witcher gaming series has everything that you need to in a game:
- Action Sequences.
- Graphics.
- Awesome Gameplay.
- Mysteries in the form of Runestones.

First appeared in the video game Pokémon Red and Blue (1996), Pikachu is famous character even among those who don’t even play games.
This individual character defined the entire franchise & was a stepping stone in making it one of popular gaming series released to date. Pikachu is an electric-type Pokémon in the video games.
It’s rising popularity is one of the reason why a movie was released on its character which was voiced by none other than Deadpool aka Ryan Reynolds.
Today, if you look at all aspects, Pikachu isn’t just popular because of its overloaded cuteness but also the connection he shares with Ash Ketchum in the anime series.
Ellie (The Last of Us)
Introduced as a protagonist in the Last of Us in 2013, Ellie is one of popular name among gamers. And soon, this name will be on everyone’s tongue once The Last of Us tv show gets released on HBO.
In the video game, she is one of the few survivor who’s immune to a plague that has wiped out worldwide population. The game begins with Ellie becoming the last hope of overcoming the terrible infection.
Similar to Lara Croft, she breaks every stereotypes of a scared little girl. Therefore, making her a unique character in the gaming world. She is also one of the first video game characters to be openly homosequal, winning her approval from the LGBT community.
Kratos
Kratos first appeared in God of War (2005), and right away, it became one of the most popular game among the gamers. If you’ve followed me in this blog, you would already have an idea how much I like Kratos & God of War gaming series especially God of War 2.

These 5 popular video game characters are my personal favorite out of all the game I’ve played to date.
