The Thiollier Questline is a side quest in the “Shadow of the Erdtree” DLC for Elden Ring.

This guide will cover all the necessary details, steps, rewards, and potential issues to help you complete the quest and gain much-needed progression and items.

What is Thiollier Questline in Elden Ring?

Thiollier Questline in Elden Ring is a side quest introduced in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Thiollier is a follower of St. Trina, and his quest line runs parallel to the main story, offering unique interactions and rewards.

You’ll first encounter Thiollier in the Scadu Altus and Southern Shore regions. Initially, he acts as a vendor, but as you progress, his role and storyline expand.

Key steps in this quest include acquiring the Black Syrup from Moore and traveling east of Castle Ensis to find Thiollier next to the Pillar Path Cross – Site of Grace. Giving him the Black Syrup and discussing its significance marks a significant part of the Elden Ring story progression.

Completing the questline in the correct order results in substantial rewards and deeper lore insights into the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Pre-Quest Requirements:

To begin the questline, you need to defeat Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood.

Thiollier Questline Rewards

Thiollier offers several rewards during his questline in the Elden Ring DLC, “Shadow of the Erdtree”. Here are the key rewards you can get:

  1. Poison-related Items: After talking with Thiollier the first time, you can buy poison items from him.
  2. Thiollier’s Concoction:
    • Get this by giving Thiollier the Black Syrup (from Moore) and asking about it.
    • You can buy more for 30,000 runes each.
    • Use it with the Dragon Communion Priestess to get her as a Spirit Summon instead of her weapon.
  3. Cookbook: St. Trina’s Disciple’s Cookbook 3 is near Thiollier in the Garden of Deep Purple.
  4. Talisman: St. Trina’s Smile Talisman boosts attack power when sleep effects occur nearby.
  5. Velvet Sword: Found in a hidden spot northwest of the Stone Coffin Fissure Site of Grace.
  6. Thiollier’s Hidden Needle Weapon and Armor Set: Found after defeating the DLC’s final boss. You can pick it up near the arena’s entrance where Thiollier’s body is.
  7. Head Armor: Legendary St. Trina’s Blossom Head Armor is found near the Garden of Deep Purple. It slightly boosts Max FP and glows.
  8. Gesture: The “Let Us Go Together” gesture is unlocked if you’re charmed and grabbed twice by the final boss.

Thiollier Questline Location in Elden Ring

Step 1: Reach the Cerulean Coast

Start by heading to the Cerulean Coast located at the southern edge of the map. Follow the path through a poison-filled area and a cave on the left, then continue south.

Step 2: Navigate to the Location

Once you arrive at the southern point, carefully jump down the rock ledges to reach the Site of Grace below.

Step 3: Clear the Yellow Gate

If you find a yellow gate blocking your way, advance towards the Shadowkeep until the gate disappears. Then, proceed forward.

Step 4: Find and Speak with Therolin

After clearing the gate, defeat the boss in the nearby area and rest at the new Site of Grace. Locate a tunnel to the west of this Site of Grace for future use.

Note: Avoid interacting with St. Trina or consuming any items at this stage.

Step 5: Locate Thiollier

Find Thiollier at a Site of Grace located southeast of a main bridge. Exhaust his dialogue options. If you’ve met St. Trina, tell him about her.

Step 6: Interact with St. Trina

Return to St. Trina’s location. Thiollier will now be there. Talk to him again for additional quest details.

Step 7: Consume the Nectar

Consume nectar from St. Trina four times. Each time you will die and respawn at the Site of Grace. After the fourth time, you’ll hear a message to “Make Micha stop.”

Step 8: Speak with Thiollier Again

Talk to Thiollier again. He will question you at first, but keep interacting with him and consuming nectar until you hear more messages from St. Trina.

Step 9: Defeat Thiollier’s Invasion

Thiollier will eventually invade you. Defeat him to get “St. Trina’s Smile” item. Return to St. Trina and follow her instructions to “Kill Mikula” and “Grant him forgiveness.”

Step 10: Proceed with Caution

Make sure you are ready for the next step since burning the tree will block many unfinished quests. Consider saving your game before moving forward.

Once the tree is burned, you can summon Thiollier for the final boss fights to make them easier.

Is Thiollier Questline Broken?

The Thiollier questline in “Elden Ring” has been reported to suffer from various issues that can potentially break its progression.

Here are key points based on my own and some player’s experiences:

  1. Dialogues: Missing or skipping dialogues, particularly at St. Trina, can disrupt the quest line.
  2. Tree Burning: There is a critical step involving St. Trina’s nectar consumption before burning the tree, which, if not followed, can break the questline.
  3. NPC Disappearance: Some players have reported that Thiollier can disappear from the map even after all dialogues seem to be completed.
  4. Quest Locking: When completing the Thiollier Questline, after you reach certain points, such as the Anteroom Chamber grace, can lock the quest, preventing further progression.
  5. Unresolved Progression: Other issues, like lack of clear progression without burning the tree, indicate multiple breaking points in the questline.

Though the Thiollier questline offers rich rewards and deep lore, it is prone to issues that can break progression.

Follow the steps carefully, save often, and prepare thoroughly before major quest actions.
