Core Keeper 1.0 has finally launched its full version on August 27th.
It’s one of the rare gems in my collection of games in recent years, and for the first week after launch, you can get it at a 20% discount.
If you’ve any doubts, let me tell you why Core Keeper is so special and why you should buy it before the discount expires.
Reason #1: Exploring a Hidden World
In Core Keeper, you start in a dark cave and enter a whole new world.
The game creates a new map each time you play, so every game is different. This makes you want to play again and again.
Different Areas to Explore
As you dig deeper, you’ll find various areas:
- Green caves
- Old ruins
- Scary places
Each area has its own look, challenges, and rewards. You might be breaking rocks one minute and facing creepy bugs the next.
It’s exciting to find hidden treasures and secrets, making you feel like a real explorer.
Reason #2: Crafting and Resource Management
One of the best parts of Core Keeper is making items and managing your resources.
Everything you need comes from the world around you. You start with basic tools, but as you gather more materials, you can make better weapons, and armor to improve your base.
Crafting System
The system for making items is easy to understand:
- Collect materials like wood, metal, gems, and ores.
- Use these materials to make tools and items you need.
- Make better gear to fight tough enemies and explore deeper areas.
Reason #3: Playing with Friends
You can also play Core Keeper with friends:
- Play with up to 8 people
- Work together, share resources, and fight big enemies as a team
- Easily join or leave a game with friends
Playing with friends adds more fun to the game, and it’s easy to start playing together.
Reason #4: Fighting Enemies and Bosses
Besides exploring and finding treasure, you’ll love the boss fights and combat in Core Keeper. The game has many unique boss fights, like:
- Giant Lava Slime
- Big Sea Worm
Each boss fight is different, and you need to plan your strategy and have the right gear. The fighting system is easy to learn but still challenging.
Reason #5: Building and Personalizing Your Base
Core Keeper offers extensive base-building and customization options.
You can design and expand your base to be as functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Gather resources, design rooms, set up crafting stations, storage areas, and even traps to protect from enemies.
Reason #6: Progression and Character Development
You start off with basic tools and skills, but as you gather resources and tackle challenges, you level up and unlock new abilities.
You can specialize your character by focusing on skills like mining, combat, or crafting.
This progression system keeps you motivated, offering a sense of accomplishment as you hit new milestones.
Reason #7: Visuals and Soundtrack
The pixel art in Core Keeper is fantastic, bringing the underground world to life with charming and detailed graphics.
Each biome, creature, and item is designed with care. The soundtrack is equally impressive, setting the atmosphere perfectly for your adventures.
Reason #8: Updates and Community
The game gets regular updates with new content and improvements.
The developers listen to player feedback and make changes based on what players want.
Reason #9: Active Modding Development
Core Keeper supports mods, allowing you to tweak the game to your liking.
From finding new items to designing custom game modes, the community’s creativity adds an ever-expanding world of content to explore.
My Review of Corekeeper 1.0
Early Access vs. Full Release
World Generation
One of the biggest changes in the full release is the revamped world generation:
- Size and Boundaries: Unlike the infinite worlds in Early Access, the new worlds are significantly smaller. For example, the ancient Forge used to spawn at around 1,600 tiles away from the core; now, the outer biome wall is just 1,350 tiles away.
- Point of Interest: Points of interest like the chipped blade are now weighted to spawn faster—finding it within 20 minutes has been reported by some players.
Fishing Mechanic
The change to the fishing mechanic has sparked mixed emotions:
- Removal of the Miname: This feature was widely disliked and has been removed.
- Community Feedback: Due to community demand, the Miname will be added back as a toggleable option. However, it will not be available at launch.
New Classes and Mechanics
The Mage
- Weapons and Gear: The Mage class is robust, offering a variety of weapons and magic-themed sets.
- Availability: The only downside is the scarcity of staves early in the game, prompting a need for a craftable staff option.
The Warlock
- Balancing Issues: Although fun to play, the Warlock feels somewhat less developed, with only three summoning books available. More attention to this class could enhance the experience vastly.
Additional Features and Concerns
Automation & Electronics
- Current State: The 1.0 release lacks new automation, rail cart items, or electronics, which has disappointed many players.
- Future Possibilities: Developers have assured that these elements were not abandoned but delayed due to time constraints.
The Passage Area
- Challenges: This area is considered extremely difficult, populated by creatures that move through walls and continuously hunt the player.
- Immersive Experience: Despite its difficulty, The Passage offers a deeply immersive environment, enhancing the overall tension and excitement.
PVP and Boss Fights
Player Vs. Player
- Legacy Characters: Early Access players can retain their overpowered characters, making PvP uniquely challenging.
New Boss Fights
- Variety and Difficulty: The new bosses are more challenging and unique compared to older bosses.
