Ranking New OVERPOWERED Katana in Elden Ring DLC [2024]

Katanas in Elden Ring DLC

The Elden Ring DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” brought excitement by introducing two new katanas that have quickly become our favorite.

  • Star-lined Sword
  • Sword of Knight

In this article, I’ll rank these katanas based on their effectiveness, versatility, and overall impact on gameplay, placing them in order from very good to absolutely best.

1. Sword of Knight

Sword of Knight
Sword of Knight

If I’ve to summarize this katana in the shortest way possible, all I would say is – its power is unparalleled.

This weapon deals primarily with physical damage, with a touch of magic damage, and scales only with dexterity. Like the Star-lined Sword, you’ll notice that it also has a 45-bleed build-up per hit that you can’t increase.

Ash of War: Witching Hour Slash

Trust me, the unique Ash of War, Witching Hour Slash, is a game-changer:

  • Uncharged vs Fully Charged: You can charge the Ash of War to deal maximum damage, and it can’t be blocked. I’ve found this makes it a formidable attack in both PvE and PvP scenarios.

Move Set and Performance

This katana’s move set includes:

  • Light Attack String, Jumping Attacks, Running Attacks: Standard but effective.
  • Heavy Attacks: You’ll see these are similar to those of the Serpentbone Blade, giving you double slashes whether charged or not.
  • True Combo: I’m telling you, a fully charged Ash of War that seamlessly transitions into an uncharged heavy attack is devastating.

Usage and Acquisition

  • PvP and Invasions: You’ll find the true combo potential makes the Sword of Knight overpowered, allowing you to chain attacks for dealing massive damage.
  • Location: Here’s how you get it – complete Count Yamir’s questline, starting at the Cathedral of Manism. Before the end of the quest, you’ll want to visit the Sunken Chapel in Shadow Keep, defeat the Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit for the Iris of Occultation, and finish Yamir’s quest to claim the Sword of Knight.

My Thoughts

I’ve got to say that the Sword of Knight ranks as one of the best weapons in our list of the best newly introduced Katanas.

Its unique Ash of War and true combo potential set it apart, making it a crucial katana for any serious Elden Ring player like yourself.”

2. Star-lined Sword

Next up, let me tell you about the Star-lined Sword – it’s an absolute gem if you’re into dexterity and intelligence builds. Trust me, this katana’s got a mix of physical and magical damage.

You’ll see D scaling in strength, B in dexterity, and D in intelligence. Oh, and don’t forget the 45 bleed buildup per hit, though you can’t increase that.

Ash of War: On’s Line of Stars

The unique Ash of War, On’s Line of Stars, has three stages:

  • Stage 1, 2, and 3: This flashy attack sequence provides smooth combos that deal solid damage.

Move Set and Performance

You’re getting the classic katana move set with the Star-lined Sword:

  • Light Attack Combo: A five-hit sequence.
  • Heavy Attacks, Running Light, Running Heavy, Back Step, and Rolling Attacks: All add variety to combat scenarios.
  • Ash of War: You can transition between attacks like a pro, making it great for roll-catching.

Usage and Acquisition

  • PvP: In my experience, you’ll dominate 1v1 situations, but watch out in invasions. If you mistime that Ash of War, you might be in trouble due to the lack of hyper armor.
  • Location: Want to get your hands on this beauty? Go to the Cerulean Coast west side of Grace. You’ll need to navigate through the ravine and take down Demi-Human Queen Moriga. Do that, and the sword is all yours.

My Thoughts

I’ve gotta say, the Star-lined Sword is a standout for dexterity and intelligence weapons in Elden Ring. You’ll find its Ash of War not only looks amazing but adds a whole new level to your combat strategy.

Summary

So, there you have it.

The “Shadow of the Erdtree” DLC has brought us two killer katanas that’ll change the way you play:

  • You’ve got the Star-lined Sword for a balanced, flashy option if you’re into dexterity and intelligence builds.
  • Then there’s the Sword of Knight – the ultimate weapon with its overpowering true combo and unblockable Ash of War.

Whether you’re taking on PvE challenges or engaging in PvP battles, I guarantee these katanas will take your experience in the lands between to the next level
