If you’re a frequent Chime user, it may be hard to imagine life without this popular online banking platform. But it can be incredibly frustrating if something goes wrong with your Chime account or app. Fortunately, I have 10 ways to troubleshoot common problems and restore your connection quickly!
Check for Chime Outages
If you’re having trouble with the app or website, check for outages on the Chime website. You can also look up any reported problems on Twitter by searching for “chime” and then clicking on the search results that appear. If you don’t see any reports of problems, try restarting your device and logging back into the app or website.
Verify Internet Connection
If you’re having trouble connecting with Chime, the 2nd thing to do is verify that your internet connection is working properly.
Connect to a different Wi-Fi network. If you’re on campus or at home and connected to the school’s Wi-Fi, try connecting via cellular data instead. If this fixes the problem, it means there was some issue with your school’s network—and it might be best for you to go back later when everything has been resolved.
Check for cellular coverage in the area where you’re trying to use Chime (and make sure that no other apps are using up all of your data). If there isn’t any available coverage at all—or if there’s not enough signal strength—it may take a while before everything gets fixed up again.
Update the Chime App
If there’s a new version of the app available, updating it will likely solve your problem. To do this:
Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and tap Updates at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen (or go to Settings > General > Software Update). If there are any updates available, tap Download and Install.
You can also check for updates directly from within Chime by going into “Settings” and tapping “Check for Updates” at the top right corner of the screen (or go to Settings > General > Software Update). This will take you directly into the app store, displaying all available updates; tap Update if prompted.
Reinstall the Chime App
If you’re still having problems with the Chime app, it’s possible that there may be an issue with the app itself. You can reinstall the app from the App Store or Google Play Store to fix this problem.
Once the app has been reinstalled on your device, open it and log in with your credentials. This should hopefully resolve any issues you were experiencing.
Check Device Compatibility
The other thing you should do is ensure your device is compatible with Chime. If you have an Android phone or iPhone, you’re in luck! Chime works on most modern devices.
However, if your phone is running an older version of Android or iOS and doesn’t support the Chime app, unfortunately, there’s not much that can be done about this issue.
Clear App Cache and Data
If you’re still having trouble with the app, it’s possible that the cache or data has become corrupted. To fix this, follow these steps:
- Open your phone’s settings menu and select “Apps.”
- Find Chime in this list (it should be near the top) and tap on it once to open its details page.
- Select “Storage” from this screen if not already selected by default.
- Tap “Clear Cache” at the bottom of this screen and then tap “OK” when prompted to confirm your choice; repeat with “Clear Data” if necessary.
Enable Necessary Permissions
To do this, follow these steps:
- From your phone’s home screen, select Settings.
- Select Apps & Notifications (you may have to scroll down a bit).
- Select Chime from among your installed apps and then tap Permissions on its permissions screen (it looks like a gear icon).
- Ensure that each permission listed under “App Permissions” is enabled for Chime—this includes access to your location data, contacts, and any other necessary permissions for the app to function properly. If there are any grayed-out options here, try enabling them one by one until everything works properly again. Reset Your Password
You can reset your password by following the steps below:
- Go to Chime Log in, and click “Forgot Password?” in the top right corner of your screen. If you’re having trouble logging in, select “Getting Started” from this screen and then follow the instructions for resetting your password.
- Enter an email address associated with your account or type in any other information requested by Chime (including birthdate). You will receive an email with further instructions on changing your password once you’ve verified ownership of this email address.
- If you frequently forget usernames and passwords, consider using a password manager to securely store your credentials, making it easier to access your accounts without having to remember every detail.

If you are experiencing a delay in your Chime direct deposit, it may be due to verification issues with your account, such as a hold or freeze. In this case, contacting Chime’s customer support team for further assistance is best.

Chime may reject a check for a number of reasons, including if the check is missing information, is not endorsed properly, or has already been deposited.
