I hate getting up in the morning.
So do many people!
It’s one of my least favorite things to do in life. And I’m sure most of you feel the same way. So why do we still use basic alarms?
Alarmy is an alarm clock app. It looks like any other alarm clock app out there, except for one significant difference: You need to complete a task to turn off the alarm. This helps you get out of bed, so you don’t just roll over and go back to sleep when your alarm sounds in the morning.
Alarmy App Overview & Review
I’ve had my phone for years, and it has a reasonably decent camera on it. So all I have to do is take a picture of something to unlock the phone. But that’s not what I do when I wake up. Instead, I hit snooze until there’s no time left, and when I finally get out of bed, I’m too late for the office.
But there are ways to make getting up easier. Alarmy is an excellent example as this app will wake you up even if you’re in deep sleep.
When you create an alarm in the app, you can set a “mission.” This is a task you have to do to turn off the alarm. You can set it to default, which gives you a button to turn it off. Apart from the default option, you can set 4 of the following missions:
Mission 1
The first mission, “Shake,” makes you shake your device a certain number of times before it turns off. This is supposed to get you out of bed and move your body in the morning. You can choose how many shakes you need to do, but I would set it high enough so that you can’t just shake it while lying in bed.
Mission 2
The second mission, “Math problem,” forces you to solve a math problem before the alarm turns off. This will get you thinking in the morning and prevent your mind from going back to sleep mode after waking up.
Mission 3
The third mission, “Memory Game,” forces you to find matching numbers on a grid of tiles. This will get your brain working in the morning and prevent it from falling back asleep.
Mission 4
The fourth mission, “Extra Sleep,” lets Alarmy decide how much extra sleep you need depending on how many hours of sleep you had the previous night or how much sleep you get when this alarm goes off the first time around. The app then sets an appropriate wake-up time for you and gives you an extra 15 minutes.
It’s pretty much guaranteed that you’re going to wake up. When you’re forced to get out of bed, you’re more likely to start your morning off right, rather than hitting snooze and feeling groggy all day.
The best thing about this app is that it has a variety of other ways to turn off your alarm. But the developers have thought of everything. They have an “anti-snooze” mode that requires you to complete these missions no matter what.

Alarmy App Alternatives
Walk-Up Alarm Clock
I’m sure the Walk Up Alarm Clock app developers are very proud of their ingenuity. The concept for this app is positively ingenious. Imagine an alarm that blares at you until you get out of bed and walk around. You can’t mute it; you can’t snooze it; you can’t pause it—if you don’t get your lazy, tired ass out of bed and move, it’ll just keep going. So hit your steps for the morning and shut off your alarm.
The app has many customization features, and you can even choose how many “steps” you need to take before it turns off. You can also change the song that plays in the morning or set multiple alarms for different times throughout the day.
This may be the most effective alarm clock on the market—but it comes at a price. It costs $2 on iOS and $3 on Android, which might not be worth it if you’re forced to wake up.
Loud Alarm Clock
Loud Alarm Clock is a pretty straightforward app, precisely what it claims to be. But, unfortunately, it’s loud annoying, and you’ll wake up. So what makes it better than other alarm clock apps?
I like that this app lets the user set multiple alarms. This feature is beneficial for people who need to get up at different times on weekdays versus weekends. You can also adjust the sound volume of each alarm clock or select a random sound for every alarm.
The blaring sounds are what sets this app apart from others. The sounds are clear and loud, especially when listened to through headphones or earbuds. I like the fact that there aren’t any fancy bells and whistles because the whole point is just to wake you up. And it does an excellent job of doing just that.
Rise
Rise is accessible on the App Store, but there’s also a premium version of the app (called Rise Premium) that costs $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year. This version offers unlimited snoozes and custom wake-up sounds and music (the free version only offers 12 different sounds). It also supports Apple Watch and has no ads.
Rise has some great features that you might’ve seen before, but they work well here. The ability to set your sounds as alarms is nothing new — plenty of alarm clock apps do this. But Rise takes things a step further by offering many different tones, so you can choose the exact sound you want to wake up to every morning. You can also set progressive alarms, which gradually increase in volume as you sleep, allowing you to wake up more naturally rather than by a sudden jolt.
P.S. If you don’t want to buy the premium version of this app, use third-party app stores to download the tweaked version.
Loftie
Loftie is an intelligent alarm clock, so you can set your alarms right from your phone. Create your ideal sleep schedule with individual alarms for different days. Plus, Loftie’s ingenious 2-step wake-up process makes getting up in the morning relaxing. The first alarm gently eases you from sleep, while a second louder alarm will follow if you nap or sleep through the first.
If you have trouble waking up in the morning, Loftie is a must. It comes with an app that lets you create a morning routine to help ease you out of bed – and it won’t let you go back to sleep until you finish it!
The Loftie app works with the Loftie Alarm Clock to create an intelligent home alarm clock experience. Connect via Bluetooth, and you can use the smartphone app to control your alarm clock settings instead of using the built-in buttons on the hardware itself.
SpinMe Alarm Clock
Since January, I have been using an iOS app called SpinMe Alarm Clock, and I like it because it makes me get out of bed in the morning. The app does what it says on the label: When it’s time to wake up, it will not shut off its shrill, electronic bell until you stand up and spin around for a few seconds. If you don’t stand up, if you don’t spin, if you don’t keep your iPhone in your hand, then the bell will continue to ring and ring and ring.
Final Thoughts
I’ve been using the alarmy app for a couple of weeks on my android smartphone.
And after testing, I can say this app alone is useful to wake up from your deep sleep.
Still, if you found the 4 methods mentioned in this post to be a bit harsh, you can always switch over to the alarmy app alternatives mentioned in this post.
Also, if you found the free version of the app to be useful, I recommend you purchase its premium version as this helps the developer maintain the app.
