It is surely a matter of national honour and pride that you may soon be flying on regional routes on board in a made in India aircraft. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation , whose abbreviation id DGCA has given permission to HAL ( Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd)  which has manufactured Dornier 228 for being used in civilian flights, this is a nineteen seater aircraft which has been used by defense forces till now and will be the first plane that would be used for commercial flights.

This non-pressurised plane has the maximum cruise speed of 428 kmph and also the range of 700 km. It is even capable of night flying. HAL has successfully carried out the test flights of this plane at the Kanpur airport this month after which DGCA had given the required nod for the process to be used even in the civil side.

HAL is also likely to sell Dornier to Sri Lanka and Nepal.

The official has given out a statement, “HAL can also look out at selling this plane for civil use in neighbouring countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka.”

 

The HAL has given the description of its Dornier 228 which is a nineteen seater as a “highly versatile multi-purpose aircraft for light transport. It has been developed specifically for meeting the manifold requirements of the utility and commuter transport, third level services and also coast guard duties, air-taxi operations and maritime surveillance.”

HAL also has a “transport aircraft division” in Kanpur since the year 1960. It also has core competence in maintenance, modification, manufacture, and upgrade of the light transport aircraft and also trainer aircraft for both in domestic and international markets.

The division will also carry out the maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft. The division also commences the manufacture of the civil variant of the Dornier 228 aircraft according to the the website of HAL. While the DGCA is now also given permission to Dornier 228 which can be used for even commercial flights, HAL says that now it can be used for “pollution prevention” and “executive transport” as well.
