Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 gives players lots of weapons to pick from as they start their medieval journey.
But some weapons are better than others, especially when you’re just beginning.
This guide will show you the best weapons for new players that you can get easily, without needing to be really good at the game or play through much of the story.
1. Skalitz Axe
The Skalitz Axe is an excellent early-game weapon that’s easy to obtain. Located in a small building southwest of Piller, this axe can be found in a shack belonging to a character named “Drunkard Jez Heck.”
The best part?
Taking it isn’t considered stealing.
What makes the Skalitz Axe stand out is its effectiveness. It deals both slash and blunt damage simultaneously, a unique feature of axes in the game.
While not the absolute best-in-slot axe, its time-to-kill for most enemies is comparable to higher-tier weapons, making it a solid choice until you reach the second map.
2. Executioner’s Axe
For those looking for an upgrade to the Scallet Axe, the Executioner’s Axe is an excellent choice. While it requires some crafting, it’s worth the effort. Here’s how to get it:
- Go to the butcher in Trtž (east of Piller).
- Sneak upstairs and steal the Toledo steel from a dresser.
- Head north to the overgrown dugout between two forests.
- Use the old chest key found in a clay pot to open a chest containing the Executioner’s Axe sketch.
- Learn the recipe and craft it at a blacksmith.
The Executioner’s Axe offers slightly higher stats than the Scallet Axe, but in practical terms, both weapons will dispatch most enemies in the same number of hits during the early game.
3. Cuman Chief’s Bow
For ranged combat enthusiasts, the Cuman Chief’s Bow is the best early-game option. To acquire it:
- Go to the Nomad’s Camp west of Trtž.
- Pickpocket the keys from Bi the Archer.
- Sneak into the Cuman camp and open the chest in one of the tents.
This bow, with a power draw of 180, outperforms other early-game options like the Poacher’s Bow. Once you’ve leveled up your Marksman and Agility skills, you can potentially one-shot enemies with headshots, especially after scoring your first kill in combat.
4. Field Crossbow
Found in the same area as the Rider’s Warhammer (Von Bergo’s ambushed men, southeast of Samopše), the Field Crossbow is an excellent choice for those who prefer this type of ranged weapon.
When paired with piercing bolts, it can one-shot unarmored opponents with headshots, even without high Marksmanship or Agility levels.
5. Battle Longsword
The Battle Longsword is a solid choice for those who prefer swordplay. There are two ways to acquire it:
- Purchase a bronze quality version from Blacksmith Rovan in Talmberg.
- Find a silver quality version either at a bandit camp near Žehov or from wolves north of the Nomad’s Camp.
While the Battle Longsword is good, it’s worth noting that a Henry-grade Common Longsword (craftable at level 16 smithing) will outperform it.
6. Heavy Mace
The Heavy Mace is the best mace available on the first map. To get it:
- Look for traveling caravans on the roads.
- Identify the soldier carrying the Heavy Mace.
- Choke the soldier from behind and quickly transfer the mace to your horse.
- Ride away and surrender to guards, using high Charisma to avoid punishment.
While the Heavy Mace is powerful, it’s worth noting that maces aren’t particularly necessary on the first map due to the lack of heavily armored opponents.
7. Bardiche
The Bardiche is the highest damage poleaxe available early in the game. To acquire it:
- Go to the north part of Trtž.
- Steal the keys from a specific guard.
- Enter the guard shack and take the Bish from the weapon racks.
While poleaxes aren’t the most effective weapons in the game, the Bardiche can be useful in certain situations.
8. Dagger
A dagger is crucial for stealth kills. The easiest one to obtain is located southwest of Trtž at Herdboy Sleepy’s camp. Examine the dead sheep to find the dagger.
9. Ataman’s Saber
This high-quality saber can be found at a bandit camp north of Apolena. It boasts high slash damage and is excellent for causing bleeding effects.
10. Basilard (Short Sword)
The Basilard is arguably one of the best swords in the game due to its versatility in close combat. To craft it:
- Find the schematic in a cave northeast of Trhov Týnec Castle.
- Gather the necessary materials from various merchants.
- Craft it at a blacksmith.
Additional Considerations:
- Shields: While not weapons, shields can be useful. The Von Bergo Knight Shield, found in graves south of Trtž, offers high durability. However, shields generally result in a DPS loss in combat.
- Farmer Matthew’s Pitchfork: Located in Talmberg, this unique polearm is more of a novelty weapon due to its inability to stab effectively.
- Staff: Sold by the carpenter in Trtž, the staff is considered the worst weapon in the game, dealing only 10 blunt damage.
To wrap up, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 has many good weapons for beginners that fit different ways of playing. The Scallet Axe and Executioner’s Axe are great all-around picks, while the Kumin Chief’s Bow and Field Crossbow are good if you like shooting from far away.
If you prefer swords, the Battle Longsword and Baselard are good choices. Keep in mind that how well a weapon works also depends on what your character is good at, so pick weapons that match how you like to play and what your character can do.
As you keep playing, remember to get better weapons and try out different kinds to see what you like best.
