10 Evergreen Free Steam Games [2021]

Today, when it comes to playing PC games, there is no better place to buy games then Steam.

From GTA V to Fall Guys, I’ve myself purchased many PC games from Steam.

However, this doesn’t mean, Steam only has got a big colection of PAID GAMES.

In fact, if you search like Sherlock Holmes, you’ll definetly find some hidden gems just like I did.

Don’t worry, up next, I’ll share these free games with you. So, do check them out:

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

CS:GO is the 1st free steam games in this list. Not only that, it was also my first FPS shooting game that I played.

So, in a way, I’m kinda emotionally attached with this game. After 2 years of rigorous working, CS:GO was finally released in 2012 for Windows, macOS, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and in 2014 for Linux.

This FPS-based game takes place in the form of 2 teams – Terrorists & Counter-Terrorists of 5 players each. Both the teams have their own objectives.

For instance, terrorists have to successfully plant a bomb where the Counter-Terrorists have to disarm the bomb from exploding.

This goes on for up to straight 30 matches to find the winner.

Ever since the release CS:GO has drawn an estimated 11 million players/month ever because of its free-to-play model.

Path of Exile

Path of Exile is the 2nd free steam games in this list. It’s a free-to-play RPG game that was first released for Windows in 2013. Then Xbox One in 2017 & PlayStation 4 in 2019.

The video game takes place in a world where the government has the power to exile the citizens to continent of Wraeclast.

Wraeclast is known as a place which is home to number of acient gods. Now, after taking control of the ruined planet, you must to pick one character class out of the 7 available:

• Duelist
• Marauder
• Ranger
• Scion
• Shadow
• Templar
• Witch

Valorant

Valorant is the 3rd free steam game in this list. The free-to-play hero shooter was first released with a closed beta access in 2020. Then after 2 months, Valorant was officially released for the genral public on Steam.

And right after its release, it’s giving a tough fight to one of my dearest FPS shooter game CS:GO.

Yeah. I know. I know.

Valorant is now only available via the official Riot Games website. But still I wanted to include this game as it all started with Steam.

Today, over 3 million users tune in to Valorant every month. The numbers are great & so does the in-game agents.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is the 4th free steam games in this list. It’s a multiplayer online battle arena or in short MOBA video game. The game was first published in 2013 for Windows, Linux & mac OS X.

Now, 8 years after the release, Dota 2 has developed quite a pig eSports scene where many international tournaments take place.

In fact, one of the international features a crowdfunded prize of whopping $30 Million. If you’ve got a team & passion to play Dota 2 then sign up for Southeast asian games in eSports.

Brawlhalla

Brawlhalla is the 4th free steam games in this list. Brawlhalla is a free-to-play 2D fighting game. The game was first released in 2017 for Windows, mac.

Then for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Android, iOS users in 2018 and 2020 respectively. Not only that, the game is PS5 compatible out of the box.

Even though Brawlhalla is a free game, you can unlock every current and future in-game legends at $14 and collectors pack and Spring Championship 2021 pack at $75.

Today, Brawlhalla has got more than 50 million players playing the game worldwide.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is the 5th free steam games in this list. Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online only FPS multiplayer game. The game was initially developed and released for PS4, Xbox one & Microsoft Windows in 2017.

Then the game became available for Stadia in 2019, Xbox Series X and S in 2020 and at last, PS5 by the end of 2020.

As for the game, you can play it in:

✅Co-Op Missions

✅PvP modes with or without the friends.

Destiny 2 comes in two different editions: Basic & DLC.

The basic edition is free for everyone whereas the DLC edition Destiny 2: Beyond Light is priced at $12.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star Wars: The Old Republic is the 6th free steam games in this list. To be honest, I picked the game only because of the Star Wars movie franchise.

Well, it’s not just me. Ask any starwars fanboy or fangirl, they would nod playing the game only because of its name.

And as for the game, it is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that is based on the Star Wars universe. The game was first released in 2011 and is exclusively available for Windows PC users.

Because of the popular franchise name, this game is considered as one of the highest grosser for Electronic Arts.

But do you know WHY?

Well, let me tell you some facts. Star Wars: The Old Republic was made on a developmental budget of $200 million. Then after 8 years in 2019, EA announced Star Wars: The Old Republic’s feat of closing in to 1 billion dollars in lifetime revenue.

Shadowverse CCG

Shadowverse CCG is the 7th free steam games in this list. This isn’t any other fighting game with gore all around the scenes. Instead, it’s strategic card game where 4 million battles happen everyday.

If you love watching anime then you would straighway fall in love with this game as it features art style visuls everywhere.

Shadowverse CCG was first released in 2016 for Android & iOS devices. Then, after a quarter of wait, Cygames released it for Windows & MacOS users.

Next up in the franchise, Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle was released in 2020 for Nintendo Switch users in Japan. You can expect this game to release in other part of the world by summer of 2021.

SMITE

SMITE is the 8th free steam games in this list. SMITE is a free-to-play third-person MOBA video game.

The game was first released in 2014 for Microsoft Windows. Then it expanded to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in 2015, 2016 and 2019 respetively.

Over the years, SMIT has developed quite an active esports scene with annual million-dollar Smite World Championship.

At the time of writing this post, Smite has 35 active monthly users where you can become myth legend and fight off with the other in-game gods. You can use unique strategies, god-specific powers or legendary weapons in order to defeat them altogether.

RuneScape

RuneScape is the 9th free steam games in this list. Out of all the games mentioned in this list, this one is the oldest one as it was released in 2001 for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Android & iOS.

Before the official release as a platform specific game, RuneScape was browser game built with JAVA.

The MMORPG game is steam free game but over the years, the game developers have released these 4 DLC:

✅Standard Pack

✅Max Pack and

✅The Orchestral Collection

Apex Legends

Last but not the least steam free game in this list is Apex Legends. When Apex Legends was released in direct competition to pubg pc & Fortnite, it saw a big boost in monthly viewership.

Within the 1st week, Apex Legends reached the milestone with 25 million players. Then by the end of first month, the numbers grew to 50 million users and today in 2021, the game is played by 100 millions users worldwide.

However, the lack of intersting updates, EA failed to retain most of the users. Thereby,  lowering the active monthly active user base. Now, EA is planning to counter all this by introducing Apex Legends for Android & iOS users in 2022.

Final Thoughts

These 5 games are not enough. I know that. As I said before, if you look closely, you may find free games that are even better the one’s that are mentioned in this list.

To be honest, these are some of my favorite games on Steam that everyone can play for free.
