Role-playing video games are a rich, complex genre that’s been around since the early days of gaming.
Although many people think of Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest when they hear the term RPG.
But it’s way bigger than the RPG games like Omori.
So, up next in this post, I’ll share a list of my favorite RPG games like Omori.
Undertale
Undertale is a role-playing game with a unique combat system in which you can spare enemies or try to kill them. Your actions and choices throughout the game determine whether to do one or the other.
Undertale also has a fascinating story with many twists and turns and some great characters you’ll fall in love with. Even if you don’t find any of these elements appealing, it’s worth trying out just for its soundtrack.
I’d give Undertale an 8 out of 10 (or 4 stars) in terms of gameplay and overall fun factor.
Persona 3
Persona 3 is a role-playing game for the PlayStation 2 released on September 10, 2006. It was developed by Atlus, who also produced Persona 4 and Persona 5.
Persona 3 follows the story of a high school student named Makoto Yuki as he joins SEES (Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad), an organization tasked with investigating supernatural activities.
Throughout his time in SEES, Makoto becomes involved in events relating to Death, who was defeated by Aleph ten years before the start of the game; this leads him to discover that humanity is destined for destruction once The Fall takes place and he can save them from it only by sacrificing himself.
Persona 4
Persona 4 is a role-playing game developed by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is set in an unnamed fictional Japanese countryside. It follows a group of high school students who have to investigate mysterious murders yearly during their summer vacations.
The player takes control of a silent protagonist (or Yu Narukami or Izanagi) as they team up with other characters from the town, forming bonds with them and changing their personalities over time through interaction.
Persona 4 was first released in Japan on July 10th, 2008, where it was met with critical acclaim by both fans and reviewers alike; Famitsu gave the game 37/40 points. The game was ported to iOS devices in 2014 as part of a “Persona 4: Golden” series, which includes additional content such as new characters/missions/settings.
Yume Nikki
Yume Nikki (Dream Diary) is a game that takes place entirely in the mind of its protagonist, who has chosen to lock herself away from the world to explore her dreams. The game was initially released for PC and PSP but has since been ported to several other consoles and handhelds.
If you want to play this game in 2022, you can download its ROM file from these safe rom sites and run it on your Windows PC.
The game features an open-world environment with no set goals or objectives—players can wander around as they explore their dreamscapes at leisure. You can unlock several endings based on your travels through surrealistic worlds filled with monsters and strange objects that act as keys for unlocking further areas of each dreamscape area.
It’s also worth noting that Yume Nikki has developed something of a cult following over the years; there’s even been fan art created based on notable locations within this strange little world!
OFF
OFF is a french game about a boy who wakes up in a strange world. As he explores, he discovers that you can’t die but can be hurt. You can find different items to help you overcome obstacles, and there are multiple ways to escape the world.
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Atlus for the PlayStation 2.
In this game, you can choose between two story paths: one where you help the forces of Law and another where you side with Chaos against them. After completing both stories, a third path opens up, which has you battling an extra boss that appears only at this point.
Earthbound
Earthbound (also known as Mother 2) is a 1994 role-playing video game developed by Ape Inc. and published by Super Nintendo Games.
The story follows a young boy named Ness who journeys around the world to collect eight melodies from defeating an alien force known as Giygas, which threatens his world, EarthBound. The player controls Ness’s party members through turn-based combat utilizing weapons, psychic powers, and baseball bats.
The game was directed by Shigesato Itoi, who had been inspired by Western culture during his time at college in California; he later returned to Japan and worked for Nintendo, where he started work on EarthBound before moving on to other projects such as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and MOTHER 3 (also known as EarthBound 64).
Deltarune
Deltarune is a story-driven game that draws from the same inspirations as Omori. It’s a 2D pixel art game with hand-drawn animation, an original soundtrack, and gameplay mechanics similar to Undertale. Deltarune will also have multiple endings and ways to play through it.
The main character of this game is Ralsei’s younger brother, Nanaly: the two siblings are separated at birth and meet again after many years when they are adults living in different worlds.
Like Omori and other role-playing games like Undertale and To The Moon (which we’ll cover later), Deltarune has an emotional impact on players because we get to experience what it feels like to live another life as someone else entirely—as opposed to being ourselves at all times.
For us humans (or any creature) to feel empathy towards others’ experiences, we first need some distance between ourselves and those people or creatures who might be suffering; only then can our minds truly connect with theirs—and hopefully help them out in some way along the way!
MOTHER 3
MOTHER 3 is the third game in a series of Japanese role-playing games created by Shigesato Itoi and developed by Brownie Brown. The game was released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, though it was only officially translated into English in 2015.
In MOTHER 3, you play Lucas, a young boy who must help his family rescue seven of their closest friends from an evil demon that has come to destroy them all. As you travel across the world with your companions and friends, you’ll meet many strange creatures, including a frog-like creature with four arms called Duster (who packs quite a punch), an adorable little mouse named Boney (who also packs quite a punch), and an elephant called Salsa (who doesn’t pack quite so much as either Duster or Boney).
The gameplay mechanic that makes this title unique is its use of “psyche,” which allows players to give their characters special abilities depending on what kind of emotions they’re feeling at any given time during battle or exploration. For example: if someone feels sad about something that happened during a battle, then their attacks may be weaker than usual, but if someone feels happy, then their attacks may be stronger than usual!
Little King’s Story
If you’re looking for a role-playing game that’s lighthearted and funny, Little King’s Story is the game you’ve been searching for. You play as the king of your little kingdom in this strategy RPG, where you have to rebuild your empire after being taken over by an evil force.
Little King’s Story has a unique art style thanks to its papercraft look that makes it feel like a children’s storybook come alive. It also has a great soundtrack featuring music made by Japanese composer Tomohiko Gondo, who also composed the score for another video game on this list: Valkyria Chronicles II!
The humor in Little King’s Story will keep players entertained throughout their journey to rebuild their kingdom with fun characters like Dr. Hoshi, who loves his job but isn’t very good at it (or any other job).
YGGDRASIL and the Seven Noble Virtues Online
YGGDRASIL and the Seven Noble Virtues Online might be right up your alley if you’re looking for a game like omori but with a modern twist. Set in a fantasy world where you play as an ordinary boy who must save his world from destruction, this game has all of the hallmarks of an RPG Mount and Blade, talking animals, and epic battles between good and evil.
The story begins when a messenger from another world appears to warn you of impending doom. You soon learn that your home will be destroyed unless you can collect seven orbs called “Nobel virtues” scattered across several different realms—and no one else can do it for you! So off on your adventure goes our young hero…
Night in the Woods
Night in the Woods is a game that plays out over several days. You control Mae, a college dropout who returns home to Possum Springs, where she was born and raised. The main story occurs throughout one weekend, with each day represented by its chapter.
Night in the Woods has been described as an “emotional indie adventure game” with horror, comedy, and drama elements. You’ll explore Possum Springs by talking with its residents and solving puzzles—the gameplay is similar to Omori in that it involves walking around town but differs in that instead of making decisions for your character like in Omori, you solve puzzles or talking with people (often both!).
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed reading this list of games and will be able to find something to play in it.
